Summer School 2013
Complementary skills course by Bob Williamson: Research problem choice, leadership and execution
I will present lectures covering the topic above. Specifically I will summarise some techniques for choosing good research problems, understanding how research fits into a larger perspective of science and technology, and the pathways to impact that research can have. I will also talk about how to do research effectively, both individually and as a member of a group. Furthermore I will talk about issues of management and leadership, particularly focussed on scientific research. I will discuss what makes a good research leader and manager. Finally I will talk about this from a personal perspective – how research fits into your broader life and how to derive meaning and purpose from your research.
